Big Concerts Coming to Virginia in October 2019

The Richmond Folk Festival on Brown's Island held in October.There’s a great amount of music coming to Virginia in October. From major country acts to the biggest names in rock and pop, catch your favorite artists and discover new ones all over the Commonwealth.

 

—Virginia Music Festivals—

The Town of Haysi hosts its annual Russell Fork Autumn Fest event Oct. 3-6 with music, dancing, games, and a parade.

The 2nd Street Festival returns to Richmond’s historic Jackson Ward neighborhood Oct. 5-6. It’s an annual celebration and homecoming featuring four stages of live musical entertainment along with a Kidz Zone, popular food vendors, a marketplace and Artists Row to shop.

On Oct. 11-13, enjoy the Festy Experience in downtown Charlottesville for live music and lots of fun. This year’s lineup includes Dawes, Della Mae, Anders Osborne, Langhorne Slim and more.

Celebrating the roots, richness and variety of American culture through music, dance, traditional craft and food, the Richmond Folk Festival takes place Oct. 11-13 and features more than 30 performing groups on seven live music stages, along with children’s activities, a folk arts marketplace, regional and ethnic foods and more. The free three-day festival is one of the largest events in Virginia.

Ferrum College’s Blue Ridge Folklife Festival on Oct. 26 celebrates western Virginia’s folkways and rural life with three music stages with all the famed Blue Ridge music styles including bluegrass, ballads, blues, gospel, and string band music. There will also be craftspeople, vintage farm tractors, hundreds of custom cars, and more.

 

—Over at Virginia’s Many Live Music Venues—

The National in Richmond will be bringing a number of big name artists throughout the month. The venue will be hosting Catfish & the Bottlemen (Oct. 1), Blue October (Oct. 3), Lake Street Dive (Oct. 11 & 12), X Ambassadors (Oct. 26), Andy Grammer (Oct. 27), and others.

Elsewhere in Richmond, The Broadberry will be hosting Reverend Horton Heat (Oct. 5), Mudhoney (Oct. 7), !!! (Oct. 16), Mac Powell and the Family Reunion (Oct. 17), and more.

At Richmond Raceway’s Virginia Credit Union Live!, Illenium will perform on Oct. 6. The Altria Theater will host Gordon Lightfoot on Oct. 2 and Dream Theater on Oct. 6.

The Beacon Theatre in Hopewell will be hosting acts like Sister Hazel (Oct. 3), Blue Oyster Cult (Oct. 5), Pat McGee Band (Oct. 19), and more.

In Charlottesville, the Sprint Pavilion will host Wale on Oct. 8, while the John Paul Jones Arena will host The Avett Brothers on Oct. 29. The Jefferson Theater will hosts artists like Coheed & Cambria (Oct. 11), Big Freedia (Oct. 27), Of Montreal (Oct. 28), and more.

The NorVa in Norfolk will be hosting acts like Built to Spill (Oct. 5), Justin Townes Earle (Oct. 6), Lagwagon (Oct. 12), X Ambassadors (Oct. 27), and more.

Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach AmphitheaterThe Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater at Virginia Beach brings in Chris Stapleton on Oct. 18.

In Roanoke, the Berglund Center will be hosting MercyMe on Oct. 6.

Over in Rocky Mount at the Harvester Performance Center will be hosting a number of shows including Justin Townes Earle on Oct. 4, Lake Street Dive on Oct. 10, Marshall Tucker Band on Oct. 11, Lee Ann Womack on Oct. 20, Southern Culture on the Skids on Oct. 26.

Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow will host Brantley Gilbert (Oct. 12).

At Wolf Trap National Park for Performing Arts in Vienna, shows will include Lucy Kaplansky (Sept. 10), Pat McGee Band (Sept. 17-18), and more.

Alexandria music hall The Birchmere will host John Moreland (Oct. 1), Justin Townes Earle (Oct. 2), The Paper Kites (Oct. 3), Phil Vassar (Oct. 10), Lee Ann Womack (Oct. 18), Dar Williams (Oct. 20), and more.
