Do the holidays have you stressed? From a calendar of events to a long list of gifts to find and wrap, “overwhelmed” is a regular feeling this time of year for many. In the River Realm, we have the shorelines to keep us calm. We also have an abundance of easy and unique holiday gifts to put under the tree. On a stroll through the town of Irvington, you can discover all of these…
Hope & Glory Inn
The Hope and Glory Inn is all decked out with holiday decorations. Saunter in to enjoy the enchanting building and courtyard. Make plans to stay for dinner and indulge in farm-to-table and boat-to-table specialties at The Dining Hall, now available for $100 for two, usually $150. While you’re there, purchase the gift of travel!
Who on your gift list could use a true getaway to the River Realm? The Inn is offering a few deals right now. For starters, you can stay at Hope & Glory three Saturday nights in December at a $150 rate for a room and a $185 rate for a cottage. There are still a few spots remaining to take part in the annual New Year’s party, which includes dinner and champagne! Finally, if a December getaway isn’t in the cards, then you can purchase a gift card to be used sometime in 2018. A gift that is already paid for makes the decision to get away even easier. Find out more and reserve by calling 804.438.6053.
Objects & More
This local upscale gallery carries work from more than 200 artists from across the country. Get lost as you discover paintings and pottery inspiring by the River Realm. You’ll also find well-crafted jewelry, home decor, and even nightlights. Got a dog lover on your gift list? We love this dog sculpture made entirely of driftwood. Learn about Objects & More.
Dog & Oyster Vineyard
Fancy a glass of rose? The Dog & Oyster Vineyard is still open Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.! Take a walk or short drive to the winery known for its giant corkscrews. The 6-acre vineyard grows four varieties of grapes: Chardonel and Vidal Blanc for white wines and Chambourcin and Merlot for its reds. Take a few bottles of the Virginia Wine home as gifts or to serve at your holiday gatherings. The vineyard is owned by the Hope & Glory Inn and has all the same great high quality and fun flavor. You can call Hope & Glory Inn to purchase a gift card that includes a stay at Hope & Glory and a visit to the vineyard.
Steamboat Era Museum
How about a splash of history? Swing into the Steamboat Era Museum to feed the curious kid in you. The museum brings landscapes to life from an era when revival camps, shucking houses and country stores dotted the river’s shores. The museum’s gift shop is stocked with holiday decorations and gifts for the entire family including hostess gifts, jigsaw puzzles based on pieces from the museum’s collections, note cards, posters, journals and stocking stuffers. For the history buffs and foodies on your gift list, we suggest the museum publications, “We Are Who We Are Because Steamboats Were” and “Dining on the Chesapeake Bay.”
