    As the weather cools and the colors begin to hint across Virginia’s 15 million acres of foliage, the temptation for a weekend getaway increases. Travel affordably this fall with a package that includes accommodations and fun.

    Celebrate 75 years of the Appalachian Trail with a weekend stay The Mountain Lake Conservancy and Hotel in Pembroke. $221.50 per night for two people includes all meals and a guided hike. Available September 21-23 and October 12-14 only.

    The Virginia Creeper Trail is Virginia’s most famous rails-to-trails project, and offers amazing views along its 34.3 miles. Rent a bike and stay two nights with the Summerfield Inn Bed & Breakfast in Abingdon where a gourmet breakfast for two is included. $340-$400 per couple.

    The leaves are what fall is all about and you can see them from a unique vantage point when you stay at the Craddock Terry Hotel in Lynchburg and soar on a plane.     A fall canoe outing on the James River is quite serene. Give it a go when you stay at the Natural Bridge Hotel anytime between now and October 31. The package includes all of the Natural Bridge attractions plus canoeing for $147 per night for two or $227 per night for a family of four. Available Fridays and Saturdays only.

    The Fall Festival of Folklife is coming up October 5-7 in Newport News and offers crafts, foods and diverse entertainment. Three hotels have special room rates for festival goers that includes tickets and t-shirts:
