Do you recognize one of the oldest tourist destinations in the US? This beauty has been included on several "Seven Natural Wonders of the World" lists, was surveyed by George Washington in 1750 and was once owned by Thomas Jefferson as a personal retreat. While you're visiting don't forget to swing by the legendary Foamhenge, explore the Natural Bridge Caverns and get your photo taken with a baby tiger at the Natural Bridge Zoo. Who’s Got the LOVE? Abingdon, That’s Who

    LOVE Unveiling in Abingdon

Rita McClenny, Vice President of Virginia Tourism Corporation and Danielle Emerson, Public Relations Specialist at Virginia Tourism Corporation pose with the LOVE letters in Abingdon.

LOVE was unveiled in Abingdon Wednesday before a crowd of tourism supporters, community, and smiling faces awaiting their turn for a photo.

Twenty-one Virginia localities nominated themselves to host the LOVE letters for the month of September. After 33 hours of online voting via Facebook and Twitter, nearly 24,000 votes were cast in the “Bring LOVE to Your Town” contest. In the end, it was Abingdon, receiving more than 5,600 votes, that won the chance to host the LOVE letters.

Should you find yourself in Abingdon partaking of the delightful tourism opportunities like The Barter Theatre, The Heartwood Center, The Virginia Creeper Trail, or the The Martha Washington Inn & Spa, be sure to put on your best smile and pose with LOVE. We’re hoping you’ll share your photos on our Facebook page or on Twitter. If using Twitter, be sure to add #VALOVE to your post.

The LOVE letters will reside in Abingdon through the end of September, and after that … well, keep an eye peeled! Congratulations, Abingdon, on bringing LOVE to your town!
