    Leaving a Legacy

    You know that box you tucked away in the attic or the back of the closet when your great-Grandpa passed? Pull it out and see what treasures he stowed away for you. If you happen to find old documents from the Civil War era, share them with the world through the Civil War 150 Legacy Project.

    New Market Reenactor Writing in His DiaryThe Legacy Project is a team of archivists from the Library of Virginia who scan your documents in a community near you. What is of interest to them? Civil War-era letters, memoirs, pension materials, military passes, discharge papers, diaries, hand-drawn maps, photographs, and other manuscripts. In doubt about what you have and if it’s of interest? Bring it to an event near you and let the experts decide.

    Materials presented for digitization must be owned by the individual presenting them, not be photocopied, and not subject to United States copyright law.

    The Legacy Project is an effort jointly pursued by the Library of Virginia and the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission.
