Kayaking along the shore at Westmoreland State Park. Photo courtesy of Virginia State ParksOur winner’s home base is coastal Westmoreland State Park, which stretches for 1½ miles along the Potomac River and boasts spectacular water views. Activities include an interpretative kayak trip, swimming, hiking miles of nature trails, and special evening children’s programs. For more aqua fun, Deltaville offers a Chesapeake Bay fishing trip and the Deltaville Maritime Museum.

The exploration of historic halls begins at Stratford Hall, built in the late 1700s, and the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. There are five nature trails on the plantation and nearby is the George Washington Birthplace National Monument. The Colonial Living Farm raises livestock and demonstrations in the spinning shop.
