From late July through early August of 1927, artists such as The Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers and more made musical recordings in a makeshift studio in downtown Bristol. Those recordings became known as the 1927 Bristol Sessions, and they made Bristol the birthplace of #countrymusic. Tomorrow, 87 years later, a museum dedicated to the history of country music, starting with those 1927 Sessions, opens to the public in downtown #Bristol. This is a must-visit for music fanatics and connoisseurs! Photo props to @amandastrav. #bcmm #birthplaceofcountrymusic #oldschoolva #vatravel #loveva #records #virginia #musiclovers @bcmbristol
If you're in #VirginiaBeach and looking for a killer #breakfast with local gourmet #coffee, you HAVE to check out Zeke's Beans & Bowls. Their #acai bowls, made-to-order with fresh fruit, will knock your socks off! This is their North Pole Bowl, acai topped with granola, banana, mango, blueberries, cocoanut and almonds. The cafe's eclectic, retro-beach vibe is also a #morning mood lifter. #loveva #vafood #goodmorning #wakeup #getinmybelly #freshfruit @visitvabeach @zekesvb

  • Who’s Cool? We’re Cool!

    Lewis Ginter Children's Garden

Kids need places to let loose, get their hands dirty, and appreciate their surroundings differently than adults. Knowing this, we’ve done some of the work for parents and grandparents. Check out our Cool Places for Kids – 59 in total and growing!

Just one cool place for the small ones we lovingly call “Little Angels,” is the Children’s Garden at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond. The biggest tree house you’ve ever seen, water sprinklers, and so much more await your little tike!

    >> Nine more suggestions for Little Angels here.

The “Grade Schoolers” are inquisitive, yet a little shy (until you get them wound up!), but they love places like the Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton where they can see the Apollo 12 Command Capsule that went to the moon, and the Virginia Discovery Museum in Charlottesville where it’s a family affair of learning.

    >> Fifteen more suggestions for Grade Schoolers here

    Snowflex Centre at Liberty University

“‘Tweens” are kind of stuck. They’re too old (so they think) for zoos, but too young for raging roller coasters. What to do, what to do? How about the Virginia Safari Park in Natural Bridge? Climb aboard the tractor-drawn wagon for a park excursion that includes stops to feed the bison, elk, ostriches and more!

    >> Eleven more suggestions for ‘Tweens here.

Finally, for the “Teens,” who are much too cool and way too old for any of this baby stuff … Why fight them? Give them what they want … year ’round skiing and snowboarding at Snowflex in Lynchburg, extreme skateboarding in Virginia Beach, or kiteboarding lessons in Cape Charles. It’s all cool and they will love it. Trust me.

    >> Seventeen more suggestions for Teens here.

What do your kids love while vacationing in Virginia? Let us know! Submit a comment and we’ll check out your suggestions for possible future inclusion!
