Here's a view of Damascus Old Mill #Inn. Since 1910 the Old Mill has stood along the South Fork #River, serving the community of Damascus as a grist/saw mill until 1965. Now you can rent rooms overlooking the river and this beautiful man-made #waterfall stretching across the South Fork. The river (and falls) are four to five times wider than what you see here. It's breathtaking to stand in the middle of the riverbed like this with the water roaring past. #LoveVa #Virginia #sunset #swva #southforkriver #vaoutdoors #vais4lovers
  • Favorite Places to Take a Dip

    Lake Moomaw

    Cascades National Recreation Trail

While much of the Commonwealth is relatively cool, it’s about to heat up again! Here are a few places to take a dip and chill out …

    • Have boat, will float at Lake Moomaw‘s 2,530 acres of refreshing Jackson River-fed waters. The beach area (if you’re minus the boat) offers a bath house, and you’re encouraged to bring a picnic lunch for a wonderful day by the lake. Want to stay the night? Camping is available, too. Lake Moomaw is located in Covington.
    • Wise County’s Cave Springs is refreshing mountain water! Literally fed from a cave spring, this swimming lake will beat the heat in no time. Rest rooms, camping and hiking trails are available, too.
    • How does a chilly pool at the base of a waterfall sound? Enticing, right? Take a dip at Cascades National Recreation Trail. After the two-mile hike in, you’ll be ready to at least dip your feet in. Go ahead and pack a lunch – there are 15 tables and grills ready to accommodate you. Note that Little Stony Creek is popular for native trout fishing, so be sure to wear sandals if you wade in the water.
    • Virginia State Parks are great water destinations. Fairy Stone in Patrick County offers a 168-acre lake with a beach area and camping. Lake Anna is one of Virginia’s most popular swimming lakes and also offers pontoon boat rides. Lake Anna is also noteworthy for its handicap accessible fishing pond.

This past weekend my family camped at New River Campground, near Christianburg. Virginia may be for lovers, but this campground is not. The owner/manager is very rude. The restrooms are filthy and stink. The dumpstation is located so that sewage that can and does spill is walked through by childrend visiting the store and one of the recreation areas.

I do hope that I never have the opertunity to visit the area again.
